A City employee working at a water treatment plant was operating a 1952 Jeep Willys which had been equipped with a mounted fire nozzle. The adaptation on this old vehicle was done by a company which had contracted with the City to mount the fire nozzle assembly on the vehicle. They were not a licensed or certified welding company.
While the employee was using this high pressure hose to wash down an area, the welds broke loose throwing the nozzle and assembly into the employee’s face and head. The employee suffered a concussion, head laceration and facial contusions as well as mid-back thoracic pain and a right wrist strain. He has continuing migraines.
The case settled for $325,000.
